3Q Relies on Green IT: Sustainability as part of our DNA

3Q GmbH consistently uses green IT to combine digital innovation with ecological awareness. As a provider of powerful video streaming and hosting solutions, we have a particular responsibility: Our infrastructure should not only be efficient, but also sustainable.

Sustainability starts in everyday life

In order to improve our CO₂ balance, we use an environmentally friendly way of working. Our business trips are preferably carried out by rail — climate-friendly, efficient and without traffic jams. In everyday working life, we rely on remote work: This not only saves energy and emissions, but also promotes flexible, modern working models.

In addition, our daily work is largely paperless. Contracts, processes and communication run digitally. In this way, we avoid unnecessary paper consumption and conserve natural resources.

But we are going one decisive step further: Our IT infrastructure is based on consistently implemented green IT.

Why do we use refurbished servers?

Our servers are at the heart of our digital infrastructure. They should be powerful and reliable, but also sustainable. That is why we have deliberately decided to use tested, remanufactured hardware, so-called refurbished servers. But what does that mean in practice?

1. Extending the life of hardware

By using refurbished servers, we significantly extend the life cycle of hardware that has already been produced and contribute to reducing the ecological footprint created by the energy and resource-intensive manufacturing process of new hardware.

2. Saving CO₂ and critical raw materials

Producing new servers requires large amounts of energy and rare raw materials such as gold, tantalum, and cobalt. These precious metals are often extracted under environmentally and socially problematic conditions.

By reusing servers, 3Q makes an active contribution to climate and resource protection. For us, this is a clear advantage over new purchases.

3. Promoting the circular economy

Our IT infrastructure is part of a circular economic concept. Refurbished hardware is professionally tested, cleaned, repaired if necessary and then put back into operation after initial use. When a device is no longer operational, it is professionally recycled. This reduces electronic waste and reduces environmental impact.

4. Avoid electronic waste, relieve landfills

Electronic waste is one of the fastest growing environmental problems. We are actively helping to slow down this development. Because every reused server means one less device in the landfill. This not only extends the useful life of existing resources, but also reduces the burden on disposal systems.

5. Sustainability also pays off economically

For us, green IT means not only ecological responsibility, but also economic vision. Refurbished servers are significantly cheaper to buy than new devices — with the same performance. In this way, we optimize our return on investment (ROI) and can invest in other sustainable business goals at the same time.

We take responsibility for our actions, our resources and our environment. Whether through paperless processes, saved new server purchases or every avoided flight trip, we contribute to making our company ever more sustainable and sustainable.
