Transcripts, chapters, shares — plus a freshly redesigned UI. In this article, we explain the new 3Q video player updates and explain what specific benefits they bring.
Specifically, it concerns:
What is a transcript?
A transcript is the spoken text of a video or podcast as readable text — ideally time-coded, i.e. with time stamps that match the individual sentences.
New: The 3Q player shows synchronized transcripts right next to or below the video/audio. Users can search the transcript, click on a result, and jump straight to it. The text that has just been spoken is highlighted in real time. It also supports multilingual transcripts. The feature can be activated with the player configuration parameter `transcript:true` or via our interface.
Why is that important?
What are chapters?
Chapters divide long audio content into named sections (such as “Introduction,” “Interview,” “Q&A”).
New: The 3Q audio player offers chapter navigation. The chapters can be transferred via metadata or configured via playout parameters.
Advantages:
What is the Web Share API?
The Web Share API is an interface for modern web applications that makes it possible to share content such as text, links and files directly via the native sharing menu of the respective system.
New: The sharing function has been redesigned and now offers significantly more alternatives in addition to email sharing and embed code.
Advantage:
What are playlists?
Playlists in a video player are collections of videos that can be played one after the other in a specific order. A playlist consists of several video files that belong together thematically or in terms of content, for example a series, a series of events or music videos.
New: The 3Q audio player now offers a search function within playlists, improved category navigation, optimized loading behavior and a visual consistency.
Advantage:
The search function in a video player's playlist makes it possible to find specific videos or content within a playlist as quickly as possible without having to manually scroll through the entire list.
Better hover and focus behavior: The control elements react more precisely and appear smoother.
Active menu focus: If a menu (subtitle, quality, playlist) is opened, other buttons are deactivated and dimmed. This provides clarity and prevents incorrect entries.
Mobile optimized: Menus and overlays automatically adapt to smaller screens and touch navigation is more accessible.
Redesigned subtitle menu: The selected language is clearly marked for better orientation and inactive options appear subtly gray.
Refurbished icon set & interface elements give the player a contemporary look.
What does “refactoring” mean?
Refactoring means improving the source code of a software by redesigning the internal structure without changing the external behavior or functionality for users. The aim is to increase the readability, comprehensibility, maintainability and flexibility of the code so that it can be developed more easily and errors can be found and corrected more quickly.
New/improved:
Advantages: Faster start times, smoother playback, fewer outliers — particularly noticeable on mobile devices and embedded players.
What are time codes?
Timestamps (e.g. 00:12:34), which contains a passage of text exactly with a Location in video/audio link.
How do I activate the transcript view?
Transcripts are provided as a file with timestamps and in the player displayed synchronously. Die search and the Leap in time are then automatically available.
Which formats are typically used?
Common are time-coded text formats such as WebVTT or SRT.
Does the player support multiple languages?
Yes Multi-language transcripts are supported; the current language is clearly highlighted in the subtitle menu.
Does the Web Share API work everywhere?

How do I create chapters for the audio player?
Chapters can be metadata handed over or via Playout parameters be configured.
How does playlist search work?

Is there an impact on performance and load time?
The latest update includes a Code cleanup. The result: faster load times and more stable playback, particularly mobile.
What are the benefits of the accessibility update?
transcripts, improved Focus states And a clear subtitle menu make it easier to use with a keyboard and screen reader.
